French textile recycling startup Syntetica has raised $30 million in a Series A funding round to scale its chemical recycling technology for mixed nylon textile waste. The investment will support the construction of the company's first commercial demonstration plant in France.
The funding round includes strategic investments from Lululemon and MAS Holdings, one of South Asia's largest apparel manufacturers. The round was led by Bpifrance's Ecotechnologies 2 Fund, backed by the French government's France 2030 investment plan. Other investors include Swen Capital Partners, EQT Ventures, family offices linked to Peugeot, Etam, and the largest shareholder of Indorama Ventures, with additional support from the European Innovation Council.
Syntetica has developed a chemical recycling process that converts mixed nylon textile waste into virgin-quality raw materials. Unlike conventional recycling methods that require highly sorted waste, the company's technology is designed to process complex nylon waste streams, including blended and post-consumer textiles that are often difficult to recycle.
The company said the recycled feedstock can be used to produce new nylon fibers for apparel, sportswear, footwear, automotive, and other technical applications. This could reduce dependence on fossil-based virgin nylon while helping divert textile waste from landfills and incineration.
The investment reflects growing industry efforts to build circular supply chains for synthetic fibers. Brands and manufacturers are increasingly investing in advanced recycling technologies as they prepare for stricter sustainability regulations and higher demand for recycled materials.
For Lululemon and MAS Holdings, the investment supports their long-term strategy to increase the use of recycled materials and accelerate textile-to-textile recycling. If successfully commercialized, Syntetica's technology could help address one of the apparel industry's biggest recycling challenges by enabling high-quality recovery of nylon from mixed textile waste.
