Hercules Rapier Weaving Machine by Itema
Itema is the only weaving machinery manufacturer in the world offering all three weft insertion technologies—rapier, air-jet, and projectile. With its broad product portfolio and a strong commitment to continuous innovation and technological advancement in weaving machines, Itema has achieved a unique position within the industry.
In 2020, Itema acquired Panter, significantly expanding its textile technology portfolio and establishing a new division, Itematech, dedicated to weaving machines specifically designed for technical textiles.
One of the machines developed within this division is the Hercules rapier weaving machine. The Hercules rapier loom is designed for manufacturers who require a safe, simple, and efficient solution for the production of technical textiles.
This machine delivers high performance combined with excellent productivity and enhanced reliability, ensuring maximum efficiency and profitability.
The Hercules rapier weaving machine is equipped with both negative and positive rapier transfer systems. It is easy to operate for weavers and offers a high level of flexibility, enabling the production of a wide range of technical textiles. Its robust yet flexible frame ensures maximum operational reliability, resulting in increased production capacity and efficiency.
The Hercules rapier weaving machine is considered a unique solution in the technical fabric weaving market. Its special weft transfer system provides unmatched flexibility for manufacturers. This system allows for quick and easy switching between positive and negative rapier systems, delivering exceptional productivity and enabling the use of the widest range of weft yarn counts in both single-weft and multi-weft insertion configurations.
The machine is capable of weft insertion with yarn counts ranging from 10 to 48,000 dtex.
In addition, the take-up system is engineered to handle very thick and heavy fabrics as well as ultra-lightweight fabrics. The machine is also capable of producing high-quality heavy technical textiles.

The Hercules weaving machine can produce fabrics with weights up to 3,800 kg (10,000 N/m), depending on the final application. The weaving width is adjustable within a range of 620 to 1,450 mm. Using the positive rapier system, synthetic weft yarns from 10 to 43,200 denier can be woven. The types of yarns suitable for weaving on this machine include:
- All types of monofilament yarns
- All types of multifilament yarns (with or without twist)
- Flat tape yarns, with or without fibrillation
- Carbon yarns and carbon spread tow
- Aramid and Kevlar yarns
- Fiberglass yarns and rovings (with or without texturizing, with or without twist)
- Basalt fibers

Key Strengths of the Hercules Rapier Weaving Machine
The weft, warp, and fabric guiding components are reinforced to prevent abrasion caused by coarse yarns.
* The weft can be supplied either from a warp beam or from a creel.
*An optional B&R electronic control panel with a touch screen and the use of regenerative servo motors enable energy savings of 25–33%.
*The Hercules weaving machine allows simultaneous multi-pick (multi-end) weft insertion, offering significant potential for the production of advanced technical textiles.
